Our Commitment to Accuracy

Fincul operates at the intersection of finance and culture, two domains where misinformation can have real consequences. Whether we report on auction records, investment returns, or cultural funding, our readers rely on us to get the facts right. This policy outlines how we ensure accuracy across all published content.

Verification Process

Before any article is published on Fincul, it passes through a structured verification process:

1. Source Verification
Every factual claim must be traceable to a credible source. We prioritise:

  • Official records (auction results, regulatory filings, financial statements)
  • Established industry databases (Artprice, Artnet, Bloomberg, Art Basel/UBS reports)
  • Direct communication with artists, galleries, institutions, or companies
  • Peer-reviewed research and academic publications

2. Cross-Referencing
Financial data, market statistics, and investment performance figures are cross-referenced against at least two independent sources. When only a single source is available, this is noted in the article.

3. Editorial Review
All articles are reviewed by a member of our editorial team before publication. This review covers factual accuracy, logical consistency, and proper attribution of sources.

4. Expert Consultation
For complex financial or legal topics, such as tax implications of art ownership, regulatory frameworks for digital assets, or insurance valuations, we consult subject-matter experts or clearly identify when content represents general educational information rather than professional advice.

Financial Content Standards

Given the sensitive nature of financial information (classified as “Your Money or Your Life” content), we apply additional rigour:

  • No personalised advice: Fincul does not provide individualised financial, tax, or investment advice. All content is educational and informational.
  • Risk disclosure: Investment-related articles include clear risk warnings and reference to our Disclaimer.
  • Timeliness: Financial data is dated. When market conditions change materially, we update or annotate affected articles.
  • Conflicts of interest: Any potential conflict, including affiliate relationships, sponsored content, or press releases, is disclosed prominently.

Corrections Policy

Errors, once identified, are corrected as follows:

  • Minor corrections (typos, formatting, non-substantive clarifications): Updated silently.
  • Factual corrections (incorrect data, misattributed quotes, wrong dates): Corrected with a visible note at the top of the article stating what was changed and when.
  • Significant errors (material misrepresentation of facts, incorrect financial data): Corrected immediately with a prominent correction notice. If the error appeared in our newsletter, a correction is issued in the next edition.

AI-Assisted Content

When AI tools are used in the content creation process, the following safeguards apply:

  • All AI-generated drafts are reviewed, edited, and fact-checked by human editors.
  • AI-generated data or statistics are independently verified against primary sources.
  • The final editorial voice, analysis, and conclusions in every article reflect human judgment.
